Virginia Capital Litigation Data
In this section we have compiled data from all reported Virginia capital murder convictions in the modern era in which a judge or jury had the choice to impose the death penalty or a lesser sentence. For each conviction, the chart includes the defendant's name, race, sex, case citation, aggravating factor, predicate felony, race and sex of the victim, county of conviction, and current status. Along the bottom of the screen are tabs labeled, e.g. "Executed," "Death Row," "Died on Death Row," etc, including all possible predicate felonies. By clicking on each of those tabs, you can access a different chart, sorted by the characteristic of the case suggested by the label.
